Sunthar's Super Sector
From tinkering electronics to empowering CRT hobbyists
How Sunthar Started
Sunthar’s Super Sector started as a personal experiment. I began with curiosity. I have always been drawn to classic hardware, old systems, and the feeling of taking something forgotten and bringing it back to life. There is something honest about physical machines. They carry history. They carry stories.
Early in the days of the internet, I registered both thanesh.com and sunthar.com with the intention of building my portfolio. For a period of time, I hosted my work on thanesh.com. Over time, I stopped maintaining it. Later, I began writing and hosting my blog on sector.sunthar.com.
As community interest grew around my articles, I decided to dedicate the main domain, sunthar.com, entirely to reviving classic hardware. CRT televisions, handheld consoles, Video 8 players etc. I realized I was not just fixing hardware. I was reconnecting with design principles that valued durability, simplicity, and intention. That realization became the foundation of the project.
Sunthar became my space to explore that philosophy.
The Vision
My vision for sunthar.com is simple. Restore what matters. Revive what still has value. Reinvent where it makes sense.
I have always carried a desire to reduce electronic waste and keep good hardware out of landfills. Sunthar became one way for me to contribute to that effort in a practical way.
It also became a place where I could experiment with ideas. Over time, I built a mini CRT database, a calculator that people in the niche modding community use, several in depth articles, a growing community, and even a small storefront where members can sell their custom products. Each feature came from listening to what the community needed and building it step by step.
I believe classic hardware deserves more than nostalgia. It deserves respect. These devices shaped generations. They were built with constraints that forced creativity. That mindset is something I want to carry forward.
Sunthar is not only about restoration. It is about blending past and present. Keeping the soul of older systems while modernizing them for today. It is about thoughtful engineering, clean design, and long term thinking.
The Design
Through Sunthar, I built both a platform and a brand around that philosophy.

I designed and developed the visual identity from scratch. The neon split tone aesthetic represents the balance between past and future. I wanted the visuals to subtly echo the hardware itself, so you will notice the RGB glow present in every icon. It is a small detail, but it reflects the foundation of display technology and reinforces the connection to classic screens and analog systems.
On the technical side, I focused on building a clean and scalable foundation. The site is structured to showcase projects, document restoration work, and present technical breakdowns in a clear and accessible way. Performance, responsiveness, and simplicity were priorities from the beginning. The backend runs on Node.js and the frontend is built with React.
Beyond the website itself, I built prototypes, restoration projects, and design concepts that explore how classic hardware can evolve. Each project is both a technical challenge and a creative exercise.
Sunthar is still growing. It is a long term project. It reflects how I think, how I build, and what I care about.
It started with curiosity. It continues with purpose.
